My past 10 years can be easily summed up in a few words.... my kids have grown up and I’ve grown old!!!
I am in my 13th year of teaching Matric Maths to learners from Alex at an NPO school in Morningside called The Mitzvah School. Lots of my learners attend the St Mary’s Saturday School and hence my passion for The St Mary’s Foundation and all that it does. Besides that, I volunteer in the Maths Programme at HA Jack (local primary school down the road from St Mary’s), run a Bible Study and the Parents Prayer group at St John’s; as well as do a myriad of other things, all too insignificant to mention!
My daughter, Megan, matriculated from St Mary’s in 2017 (dux scholar, nogal!) and is now in second year at Stellenbosch University studying Actuarial Science. My son, Alistair, is in Matric at St John’s College and has been accepted to study... Actuarial Science at Stellenbosch University! Seeing as my husband is also an Actuary, it’s easy to see when my kids got their brains from!
For the past 5 years, my son rowed at school so I got heavily involved in that - and ended up running their camps for 2 years (so if anyone needs advice on how to feed 80 hungry boys for a week, ask me!!).
I am still married to the same wonderful guy, Carl - we will celebrate our 25th anniversary in January.
So other than a few curve balls along the way, the past 10 years have been peaceful and happy, for which I am so grateful.
With my empty nest fast approaching, the next chapter of my life remains to be seen. I hope that at our 40th reunion I’ll have something exciting to report!
Look forward to seeing you all on the 28th.
